PAINESVILLE, Ohio (Nov. 15) – The Salem International University women's basketball team opened the 2015-16 with a pair of losses to Lake Erie and Wayne State Saturday and Sunday in non-conference play.
The Tigers (0-2) lost to Lake Erie 82-57 on Saturday night and Wayne State 84-46 Sunday afternoon as part of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) versus Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Challenge.
Senior
Samantha Aiken (Hilton Head Island, S.C./Hilton Head) registered a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds in the loss to Lake Erie, while senior
Alexus Cooper (Richmond, Va./Highland Springs) led the team with 18 points and added seven rebounds against the Storm.
Salem International had a trio of players score in double-figures in the loss against Wayne State, led by freshman
Imari Bowers (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech) who tallied 15 points on five three-point shots. Aiken and sophomore
Toi Brown (Detroit, Mich./Melvindale) each finished with 10 points, with Aiken chipping in four rebounds five steals and two blocked shots on defense.
The Tigers will remain on the road to begin the season with a trip to Greensburg, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, Nov. 18 to take on Seton Hill at 5:30 p.m.
