GREENSBURG, Pa. (Nov. 18) – Despite holding a halftime lead, the Tigers were defeated 65-52 by Seton Hill in non-conference play Wednesday night.
The Salem International women's basketball team falls to 0-3 this season, while the Griffins improve to 2-1 overall.
The Tigers were led by senior
Samantha Aiken (Hilton Head Island, S.C./Hilton Head) who posted team highs of 16 points and eight rebounds and six steals. Classmate
Alexus Cooper (Richmond, Va./Highland Springs) chipped in 10 points and seven boards, while sophomore
Toi Brown (Detroit, Mich./Melvindale) added eight points and three assists.
Salem International trailed by seven, 21-14, after the first quarter, but rallied to out-score Seton Hill 18-8 in the second frame to take a 32-29 lead into halftime.
The Tigers built their lead to seven, 37-30, with 8:27 remaining in the third quarter, but the Griffins went on a 13-2 run over the next seven minutes to take a 43-39 lead with 1:17 left in the third.
Salem International pulled back within three points, 51-48, with 4:38 remaining in the game, but Seton Hill closed the game out by outscoring the Tigers 14-to-4 to complete the win.
Salem International is back in action Saturday, Nov. 21 when it heads to Ohio to take on Findlay in a non-conference game at 1 p.m.
