FAIRMONT, W.Va. (Dec. 1) - The Tigers fell to Fairmont State 63-46 in non-conference play Tuesday evening at the Joe Retton Arena.
The loss drops the Salem International University women's basketball team to 0-6 overall, while the Falcons improve to 5-1 this season.
Senior
Samantha Aiken (Hilton Head Island, S.C./Hilton Head) led the Tigers with 12 points, while sophomore
Toi Brown (Detroit, Mich./Melvindale) added 11 in the loss. Meanhile, senior
Alexus Cooper (Richmond, Va./Highland Springs) missed a double-double by two rebounds with 10 points and eight boards on the night.
Fairmont State raced out to a 16-4 lead after the first quarter, but the Tigers pulled within eight, 30-22, heading into halftime thanks to a pair of quick baskets in the final 13 seconds of the first half.
The Falcons extended its lead back to 16 points, 54-38, through three quarters and preserved their lead in the fourth to earn the win.
Three Fairmont State players reached double-figures, led by Makenzie White with 18 points, seven rebounds and seven steals.
Despite the deficit the Tigers showed off its depth by out-scoring the Falcons 22-9 in bench points on the night.
Salem International will play its home-opener on Thursday, Dec. 3 when they host Fayetteville State at 5 p.m.
