SALEM, W.Va. (Dec. 16) – The Tigers two-game winning streak was brought to a halt with an 84-53 loss to No. 19 West Liberty in non-conference play Wednesday night in the T. Edward Davis Gymnasium.
The loss drops the Salem International University women's basketball team to 2-9 overall, while the Hilltoppers, ranked No. 19 in the latest USA Today/WBCA DII Top 25 poll, improve to 9-1 overall this season.
Redshirt-freshman
Keishla Gilmore (Philadelphia, Pa./Mariana Bracetti) led the Tigers with 13 points, while seniors
TaShay Smith (Baltimore, Md./Overlea) and
Samantha Aiken (Hilton Head Island, S.C./Hilton Head) chipped in 12 and 11, respectively.
West Liberty held the edge on the glass (39 to 26) and converted 31 of 70 (44 percent) from the field, compared to the 19 of 60 (32 percent) posted by Salem International. The Tigers never held the lead at any point in the game.
Kierra Simpson led West Liberty with a double-double, 13 points and 13 rebounds in the win.
The Tigers are on the road for their last game of 2015 before the holiday break, when they take on Virginia State on Saturday, Dec. 19 at 3 p.m.
