GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (Dec. 8) - The Tigers were dealt a 94-59 loss at Adelphi Tuesday evening in non-conference action.
The Salem International men's basketball team falls to 2-6 overall, while the Panthers improve to 8-1 this season.
The Tigers had 10 different players record points, with sophomore
Saquan Epps (Upper Marlboro, Md./Frederick Douglass) tallying 11 to lead the team. Junior
Lamonte Fields (Dinwiddie, Va./Dinwiddie) chipped in 10 points, while both senior
Tyler Bell (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Central) and sophomore
Gerard Tarin (Fort Myers, Fla./East Lee County) each finished with nine in the loss. Tarin narrowly missed his third consecutive double-double after leading the team with 10 rebounds.
Adelphi jumped out to a 10-4 lead over the first five minutes, before Salem International rallied back to tie the game at 13-13 with 10:38 remaining in the first half.
The Tigers stayed within striking distance of the Panthers, but Adelphi out-scored Salem International 22-8 over the final seven minutes of the first half to take a 42-25 lead into the locker rooms. The Panthers maintained the lead throughout the second half to pick up the win over the Tigers.
Adelphi held a slight edge on the glass (45 to 43), but Salem International finished with a 16-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Despite their work on the offensive glass, the Tigers only finished with six second-chance points in the loss.
Salem International returns to action on Friday, Dec. 11 when they host Ohio University-Lancaster in the fourth and final game of day one of the Joe Manchin Classic at 7 p.m.
