OWENSBORO, Ky. (Feb. 26) – The Salem International University men's basketball team lost 95-46 to Kentucky Wesleyan Thursday evening at the Owensboro Sportscenter.
The loss drops the Tigers to 3-21 overall, 1-13 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play. Meanwhile, the Panthers improve to 9-4 in conference action, 20-7 overall.
Three Salem International players scored in double-figures, with seniors
Tyler Bell (Kalamazoo, Mich.) and
Abel Tillman (St. Louis, Mo.) and freshman
Gerard Tarin (Fort Myers, Fla.) each tallying 10 points apiece.
The Tigers scored the game's first points, but Kentucky Wesleyan responded with a 25-2 run, including 15-unanswered, with 12:05 remaining until the half. Despite Salem International shooting 66 percent from the field (8-of-12) over the final 12 minutes in the first half, the Panthers shot 82 percent (13-of-16) and took a 52-27 lead into the locker rooms.
Kentucky Wesleyan kept the hot hand in the second half. The Panthers opened up the second half with a 23-7 run to take a 75-34 lead with 9:43 left in the contest. Kentucky Wesleyan shot 65 percent (15-of-23) in the second half to pull away with the victory.
Salem International concludes its season this Saturday, Feb. 28, when the travel to Nashville to take on Trevecca Nazarene. The opening-tip is scheduled for 4 p.m. (CT), 5 p.m. (EST).
