LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Sept. 12) – The Salem International University volleyball team was defeated in four matches at the Lock Haven Invitational Friday and Saturday in non-conference play.
The Tigers (3-7) were defeated by LIU-Post, Lock Haven, Wayne State (Mich.) and Shepherd, each in straight sets.
Freshman
Kara Kocurek (Orange Grove, Texas/Orange Grove) led the team in kills against LIU-Post (25-13, 25-23, 25-14) with six, while sophomore
Felice Reed (Pilot Point, Texas/Pilot Point) totaled a team-high eight digs in the loss.
Sophomore
Rachel Hess (Stuttgart, Germany/Patch) led the Tigers with seven kills against host Lock Haven (25-10, 25-16, 25-17) and sophomore Jen Foreman (Delaware, Ohio/Rutherford B. Hayes) led the defense with 13 digs.
In the loss against Wayne State (25-13, 25-11, 25-14) on Saturday, freshman
Sophie Freihofer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) had a team-high five kills, while junior
Emerald Rosenbusch (Hutto, Texas/Hutto) led the defense with eight digs.
In the team's final match, a loss to Shepherd (25-17, 25-16, 26-24), Hess led the team with eight kills, while Rosenbusch tallied a team-best 11 digs. Senior
Brittney Nesbitt (Kansas City, Mo./Raytown South) added nine assists in the loss.
Salem International is back in action Tuesday, Sept. 15 when they head to Montgomery, West Virginia for a rematch with WVU-Tech. Earlier this season, the Tigers claimed a 3-1 win over the Golden Bears. The match is set to begin at 6 p.m.
