MONTGOMERY, W.Va. – The Tigers earned a 3-1 (21-25, 26-24, 25-17, 25-23) win over WVU-Tech in non-conference play Tuesday night.
The win improves the Salem International University volleyball team to 4-7 overall, while the Golden Bears fall to 0-6 this season.
The Tigers were led by sophomore
Rachel Hess (Stuttgart, Germany/Patch) and freshmen
Kara Kocurek (Orange Grove, Texas/Orange Grove) and
Sophie Freihofer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills), who each tallied 10 kills in the win over WVU-Tech.
Sophomore
Felice Reed (Pilot Point, Texas/Pilot Point) tallied her first-career double-double with a team-high 19 assists and 11 digs, while junior
Emerald Rosenbusch (Hutto, Texas/Hutto) paced the defense with 14 digs.
Additionally, senior
Brittney Nesbitt (Kansas City, Mo./Raytown South) and freshman
Julia Martinez (Devine, Texas/Devine) each chipped in 11 assists, while sophomore
Serena Estrada (Decatur, Texas/Decatur) added 12 digs in the win.
The Salem International University volleyball team continues its 2015 season when it heads to Buckhannon, West Virginia to participate in the West Virginia Wesleyan Invitational. A complete schedule of the West Virginia Wesleyan Invitational schedule will be posted soon.
