SALEM, W.Va. (Jan. 4) – The Tigers were dealt an 87-63 loss by Ohio Valley in each teams Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) opener Monday night.
The loss drops the Salem International University women's basketball team to 2-11 overall, 0-1 in conference play. Meanwhile, the Fighting Scots improve to 1-0 in the G-MAC, 2-10 overall.

Dorina Barrett (Detroit, Mich./Pershing) finished with a double-double, 11 points and 10 assists, while making her Tiger debut this season. Classmate
Samantha Aiken (Hilton Head Island, S.C./Hilton Head) scored a team-high 19 points and chipped in six rebounds in the loss.
The Tigers opened the game with a 7-2 lead thanks to a pair of three pointers. Ohio Valley rallied back but a third-consecutive trey gave Salem International a 12-8 lead with 4:46 remaining in the opening period.
Ohio Valley closed the first quarter on a 15-4 run to swing the game in the other direction. The Scots extending their lead in the second quarter, outscoring the Tigers 25-9 to take a 48-25 lead into halftime.
The Scots maintained a 20-point advantage for the majority of the second half to cruise to the win.
Salem International committed 31 fouls in the game, resulting in the Scots shooting 36 of 47 (77 percent) from the charity stripe. Ohio Valley also held a deciding edge on the glass, out-rebounding the Tigers 46 to 27.
Three players scored over 20 points for the Fighting Scots, led by Faith Miller with 28 on the night.
Salem International returns to play Thursday, Jan. 7 when it hosts Ursuline at 5 p.m.
