SALEM, WV - It would take a total of 94 minutes to determine a winner between Salem International University and Alderson Broaddus University as the Battlers would score the decisive goal with six minutes remaining in overtime to claim a 2-1 win against the Tigers on Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 19) in men's collegiate soccer action.
The Tigers will make the trip to Erie, Pa. on Saturday, October 22 for a 3:30 p.m. kick against Mercyhurst University. SIU returns home to close out the 2016 regular season on Saturday, October 29 as the Tigers welcome in Notre Dame (OH) to Catalano Stadium for a 2 p.m. kick.
Alderson Broaddus would break the 1-1 tie as Shavon John-Brown took a pass from Callum Doyle that would send him to the left side of the box, allowing John-Brown to beat Tigers junior goalkeepr
Dom Gillespie to the low-right corner of the net. Ashley Sibisi would also assist on the play for the Battlers as he played the ball forward to Doyle.
The Battlers would open up the scoring in the seventh minute of play as Sibisi was able find the back of the net after working past a pair of Tiger defenders and finding the left-side of the net.
The tally by Sibisi would be the only shot to find the back of the net in the first 45 minutes of play as both teams were able to rattle of five shots.

Emilio Marti took a nice pass from from freshman Leonardo Figueieredo and used some pretty foot-work to beat Battlers goalkeeper Sergio Prieto. The goal from Marti in the 47th minute was his fifth of the season and ups his point total on the season to 11.
Both goalkeepers would be the stars of the show over the course of the next 47 minutes, keeping the score tied 1-1. Gillespie would make a pair of crucial saves in the final-minute of regulation, standing tall to give his offense a chance at scoring the go-ahead tally.
In overtime, both teams would take two shots as Marti and
Samir Amzil would both be denied on the their opportunites for SIU. Marti's shot would come with 6:30 remaining in overtime as he tried to catch the goalkeeper out of position by floating his attempt from about 18 yards out.
Gillespie would finish with four saves in net for the Tigers, while Prieto made three saves in goal for the Battlers.
Alderson Broaddus outshot the Tigers 15-12 and 6-4 in shots on goal. SIU took nine corners in the match, while the Battlers took five. Both teams were issued three yellow cards in the contest with one red card being given to the Tigers.
