PHILADELPHIA, PA - Lead by sophomore
Sophie Freihofer's 14 kills, the Salem International University women's volleyball squad swept Lincoln University in consecutive sets (25-17, 25-10, 25-17) on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 22). The Tigers would combine to hit .442 as a team including 42 kills.
SIU returns home on Tuesday night (Oct. 25) to host Ohio Valley University. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at T. Edward Davis Gymnasium. The Tigers then hit the road on Friday, Oct. 28 to face Goldey-Beacom at 7 p.m. in WIlmington, Deleware.
The Tigers were firing on all cylinders in the opening set against the Lions as SIU tallied 15 kills while committing one error. Lincoln would hit .192 as a team in the first set while committing five errors.
Salem International would quickly find itself up 2-0 over the Lions after taking the second set by a score of 25-10. The 15-point margin of victory is the largest this season for the Tigers in a set.
Along with her 14 kils, Freihofer finished the afternoon with nine digs and three service aces for the Tigers. Sophomore
Cassidy Pluta recorded a team-high 14 digs while also serving up three aces.
Freshman
Ashly Holt led the Tigers with 17 assists on the night, while Freshman setter
Justine Ramirez tallied nine helpers for SIU. Junior
Rachel Hess was second on the TIgers with 10 kills and 10 digs.
Mariah Russell led Lincoln with 10 kills, while teammates Shanna King and Tierra Russaw totaled six digs apiece. King also paced the Lions with 16 assists in the match.Â
