Salem dealt loss by Trevecca, 102-82

SALEM, W.Va. (Feb. 25) – Despite a season-high 26 points from senior Tyler Bell (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Central), the Tigers were knocked off 102-82 by Trevecca at the T. Edward Davis Gymnasium Thursday night.

The loss drops the Salem International University men's basketball team to 1-10 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), 4-21 overall. Meanwhile, the Trojans improve to 14-13 overall, 8-3 in league play.

Bell shot 8-of-13 (62 percent) from the field, including 5-of-7 (71 percent) from long distance to lead the Tigers. Junior Lamonte Fields (Dinwiddie, Va./Dinwiddie) paced Bell with 18 points, while sophomore Gerard Tarin (Fort Myers, Fla./East Lee County) registered his sixth double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Salem International kept the game close for the first several minutes of the game and trailed by only two, 17-15, following a layup by Bell with 13:51 left in the opening half. Trevecca built its lead to as many as 19 over the next 10 minutes, but the Tigers crept back into the game with a 13-7 run over the final four minutes of the half to trail 54-41 entering halftime.

After the Tigers scored the first three points of the second half to pull within 10, 54-44, the Trojans took command of the contest. Salem International was unable to get any closer to Trevecca, allowing the Trojans to earn a G-MAC road win.

Trevecca shot 53 percent from the field (37-of-70) as a team, compared to the 42 percent (28-of-66) posted by the Tigers.

The Trojans were led by Mac Walden, who finished with 23 points.

The Tigers wrap up the 2015-16 season this Saturday afternoon when they host No. 10 Kentucky Wesleyan on senior day for a tip at 4 p.m.
