SALEM, W.Va. (Feb. 4) – The Tigers were defeated 85-47 by Davis & Elkins in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play Thursday night.
The loss drops the Salem International University women's basketball team to 2-19 overall, 0-9 in the G-MAC. Meanwhile, the Senators improve to 5-4 in league play, 9-11 overall this season.
Senior
TaShay Smith (Baltimore, Md./Overlea) led the team with 14 points, while junior
Karla Hall (Richmond, Calif./Laguna Creek) narrowly missed a double-double with eight points and 11 rebounds in the loss.
Davis & Elkins raced out to a 20-6 lead after the first period and entered halftime with a 28 point lead, 43-15. The Tigers struggled from the field early, converting 18 percent (6 of 33) attempts.
Salem International improved its shooting in the second half. The team shot 38 percent (13 of 34), but it was not enough to overcome the halftime deficit.
Davis & Elkins guard Stephanie Wooten led all players with 19 points in the game.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, Feb. 6 when they travel to Vienna, West Virginia to take on Ohio Valley at 5 p.m.
