OWENSBORO, Ky. (Sept. 10) – The Tigers were knocked off in their four matches at the Kentucky Wesleyan Invitational Friday and Saturday.
The Salem International University Volleyball team (2-6) was defeated on Friday 3-1 by both Bluefield State and Brescia and dropped a pair of matches 3-0 on Saturday to Ursuline and Oakland City.

Brescia (Ky.) 3, SALEM INTERNATIONAL 1 – September 9
The Tigers were knocked off 3-1 by Brescia (25-19, 13-25, 25-9, 25-20) in their second match of the day Friday afternoon.
Junior
Rachel Hess (Stuttgart, Germany/Patch) led Salem with 12 kills, while freshman
Ashly Holt (Haslet, Texas/Northwest) finished with a team-high 12 assists in the loss.
Defensively, sophomore libero
Cassidy Pluta (Parma, Mich./Lumen Christi Catholic) led the team with 13 digs, while junior
Alessandra Marquez (Brawley, Calif./Brawley Union) added three blocks.
Ursuline 3, SALEM INTERNATIONAL 0 – September 10
Salem International was dealt a 3-0 loss by Ursuline (25-10, 25-11, 25-15) to start day two of the Kentucky Wesleyan Invitational.
Hess led the team with six kills, Holt guided the offense with 13 assists in the match and Pluta tallied a team-best 10 digs in the loss.
Oakland City 3, SALEM INTERNATIONAL 0 – September 10
The Tigers concluded play with a 3-0 loss to Oakland City (25-16, 25-13, 25-16) on Saturday.
Marquez and sophomore
Sophie Freihofer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) each finished with five kills to lead the offense in the match.
Holt established a season-high with 16 assists from the setter position, while Pluta led the defense with 12 digs in the loss.
Salem International is back on the court on Tuesday, September 13 when they travel to Vienna, West Virginia to battle former WVIAC and G-MAC opponent Ohio Valley at 7 p.m.
