Tigers rally for win over Felician, 3-2

WORCESTER, Mass. (Sept. 3) – The Tigers rallied back from a two-set deficit to earn a 3-2 win over Felician Saturday afternoon. The volleyball team dropped its opening match 3-0 to host Assumption earlier in the day.
 
Salem International University, which improved to 1-2 on the season overall, dropped the first two sets of the match with Felician by scores of 26-24 and 25-18 before it rallied for the win. The Tigers held off the Golden Falcons in the third set with a 26-24 win and closed the match out with a 25-16 win in the fourth set and a convincing 15-7 win in the fifth set.
 
The Tigers were led by freshman Ashly Holt (Haslet, Texas/Northwest) who tallied a double-double of 15 kills and 12 assists in the win. Junior Rachel Hess (Stuttgart, Germany/Patch) chipped in 11 kills and sophomore Sophie Freihofer added nine kills and a team-high 26 digs in the victory.
 
Freshman Justine Ramirez (Lubbock, Texas/Corornado) recorded her first double-double with a season-best 31 assists and 11 digs, while sophomore Cassidy Pluta (Parma, Mich./Lumen Christi Catholic) added 19 digs defensively.
 
The Tigers finished with a 15 to seven advantage in service aces, led by Holt, Ramirez and junior Alessandra Marquez (Brawley, Calif./Brawley Union) who had four, apiece.
 
The host of the tri-match, Assumption, defeated Salem International 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-15) to open the day.
 
Hess led the team with seven kills, while Ramirez guided the offense with a team-high 16 assists.
 
The Tigers return to action this Tuesday, September 6 when they head to Glenville, West Virginia to take on Glenville State at 6 p.m.
