Salem battles back to defeat Glenville State, 3-2

GLENVILLE, W.Va. (Sept. 6) – Sophomore Sophie Freihofer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) nearly finished with a kill-dig double-double, as the Tigers rallied for a 3-2 win (18-25, 26-24, 19-25, 25-18, 15-12) over Glenville State Tuesday night.

The Tigers improve to 2-2 overall, while Glenville State falls to 0-5 on the season.

Freihofer finished the game with nine kills, a team-best 11 digs and three blocks in the win. Senior Rachel Hess (Stuttgart, Germany/Patch) matched Freihofer with nine kills and added a team-high four blocks, while sophomore libero Cassidy Pluta (Parma, Mich./Lumen Christi Catholic) added 10 digs.

Freshmen Justine Ramirez (Lubbock, Texas/Coronado) and Ashly Holt (Haslet, Texas/Northwest) each tallied double-digit assists with 15 and 14, respectively, to guide the offense in the victory.

The Tigers have a busy weekend ahead, as they head to Owensboro, Kentucky for five matches on the campus of Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday and Saturday September 9-10, beginning with an 11 a.m. match with in-state rival Bluefield State. Due to the high volume of matches being played, there will not be any live coverage (stats, streams, etc.) of the games at Kentucky Wesleyan.
