Box Score DANVILLE, Ill. (Dec. 16, 2017) – The Salem University Tigers' men's basketball team got a dominant performance from
Reggie Oliver, but surrendered an 8-2 run over the last two minutes to lose 81-78 to the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds.
Oliver was nearly perfect from the field, scoring 34 points on a blistering 12-for-13 shooting, including 8-for-8 from behind the 3-point line and 2-for-2 from the free-throw line.
Malik Toppin contributed 19 points (on 9-for13 shooting) and four blocks.
But the Tigers committed 10 more turnovers (23-13) and surrendered 10 offensive rebounds, giving the Greyhounds an 18-7 advantage in second-chance points in their narrow three-point win.
University of Indianapolis' Jesse Kempson posted a double-double with 26 points (on 9-for-16 shooting, including 3-for-4 from the 3-point line) and 12 rebounds, getting eight on the offensive glass to lead the Greyhounds. Eric Davidson contributed 17 points (6-for-10 shooting) and CJ Hardaway Jr. had 10 points.
Depth played a factor, with the Greyhounds' second unit outscoring the Tigers' bench 14-6.
Ignacio Rodriguez had 10 points and seven rebounds but struggled from deep, hitting just 2-for-7 from the 3-poitn line.
Jordan Robinson missed all four of his shots from the field but contributed a game-high 15 assists.
Salem University took a late 76-73 lead with 2:43 remaining on back-to-back two-point baskets from Toppin and
Ferlandis Penny, but committed two turnovers and missed two shots over four of their next five possessions to close the game out with a loss.
With the loss, the injury depleted Tigers have dropped four of their last five, falling to 4-7 on the season. They will return home for a game against the University of California (Pa.) on Dec. 19 at 6 p.m. before the winter break.
