SIU Baseball drops doubleheader against OVU

PARKERSBURG, WV - The Salem International University baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader on Friday afternoon (Apr. 14) against Ohio Valley University. The Fighting Scots recorded a shutout (10-0) in game one and held-on for a 3-1 victory in game two against the Tigers.

Sophomore Isaiah Arroyo went 2-for-5 on the day and was responsible for plating the lone run on the day for the Tigers. Senior Donato Gallano finished the day 3-for-6 at the plate for SIU, while freshman Tyler Ault recorded the other hit for the Tigers in game two.

Senior Josh VanMeter got the start in game one for the Tigers. VanMeter exited the game after allowing three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Gallano tallied the Tigers' lone hit of the game in the top of the second inning with a lead-off single to right center. SIU would load the bases after a pair of walks but would leave them loaded after Hernandez, who started game one in left field, struck-out to end the frame.

After sophomore Josh Delaney worked a scoreless bottom of the third inning, the Fighting Scots increased their lead to 7-0 in the fourth inning as junior Jordan Wagner surrendered four runs.

Ohio Valley would add three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning against sophomore Albert Cartenuto to up its lead to 10-0. All-three runs would be unearned after the Tigers committed an error in left field to load the bases.
