Women's soccer shutout against Ohiio Valley University

Tigers lose 6-0.

Box Score VIENNA, W. Va. (Sept. 26, 2017) – The Salem International University (SIU) Tigers women's soccer team was shutout across the board, losing 6-0 to the undefeated Ohio Valley University (OVU) Fighting Scots.

SIU surrendered two goals in the first 10 minutes of the match on shots from Laura Jimenez (6:37) and Karla Traslavina (8:25), and four in the first half to drop to 2-7 this season. It was the fifth shutout of the season for the OVU defense, improving to 6-0-2.

OVU controlled the ball throughout the game, holding the Tigers without a single shot or corner kick while putting together 23 shots (17 on goal), with 11 in the first half and 12 in the second. Konstantina Giannou led the Fighting Scots with game-highs in goals (two) and shots on goal (six) and contributing one assist.

Emily Pontiakos finished with 11 saves.

The Tigers will return for a four-game homestand through the first half of October, starting with a game against Glenville State College on Oct. 3, and then a homecoming game against Trinity (DC) on Oct. 6 at Catalano Stadium.
