Men's basketball falls short against Kentucky Wesleyan's depth

Tigers fall to 0-7 on the road.

Box Score
OWENSBORO, Ky. (Jan. 10, 2018) – The Salem University Tigers men's basketball team continued its struggles on the road, losing to the Kentucky Wesleyan College Panthers 81-68.

Malik Toppin led the Tigers with another double-double, posting 23 points and 12 rebounds. Salem's center was 7-for-16 from the field, working inside and getting to the free-throw line often, where he shot 9-for-14.

Forwards Marko Tutunovic and Jarius Farrow flanked Toppin with quality production, with Tutunovic filling out the box score with 16 points (8-for-11 shooting), six rebounds and four assists and Farrow scoring 13 points and three rebounds.

The Tigers struggled to keep up with Kentucky Wesleyan's superior depth, however, getting only two bench points to the Panthers' 38, led by reserve Brandon Hatton's team-high 23 points, shooting 6-for-10 from the 3-point line and 5-fo-6 from the free-throw line.

Salem struggled to keep pace with a balanced Kentucky Wesleyan attack, with the Panthers getting five players in double figures, with Evan Milligan scoring 15 points and nine rebounds, Malek Harris scoring 13 points with eight rebounds, Daniel Dzierzawski posting 11 points and seven rebounds, and Amir Warnock coming off the bench with Hatton to score 15 points and seven rebounds.

The Tigers shot well from the field, hitting 45.5 percent, but struggled from deep, shooting just 4-for-13 from the 3-point line, and were just 14-for-25 from the free-throw line.

With the loss, the Tigers dropped their sixth consecutive game, falling to 4-11 on the season, including 0-7 on the road. Salem will travel to Oakland City, Indiana for a game against Oakland City University on Jan. 14 at 5 p.m.
