Box Score OAKLAND CITY, Ind. (Jan. 13, 2018) – The Salem University Tigers men's basketball team continued its struggles on the road, losing to the Oakland City University Mighty Oaks 91-78.
Malik Toppin led the Tigers with another double-double, scoring 27 points (on 12-for-16 shooting) and 13 rebounds while also contributing six blocks.
Salem University struggled defensively, surrendering 50.8 percent shooting from the field for the game, including 7-for-16 from the 3-point line (43.8 percent). In the second half, the Tigers compounded their defensive struggles by sending Oakland City to the free-throw line repeatedly, giving the Mighty Oaks 19 second-half free throws, of which they hit 17.
Oakland City sharp shooting forward Andrew Scott led all scorers with 36 points, 10 rebounds, four blocks and two steals, hitting inside and out by shooting 10-for-16 from the field, including 6-for-9 from deep and 10-for-11 from the free-throw line.
Addison Wagler had 24 points on 11-for-21 shooting and Logan Worthington had 18 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.
Darren Montgomery had 21 points for the Tigers on an efficient 7-for-13 shooting, hitting 7-for-9 from the 3-point line.
Jarius Farrow contributed 15 points, hitting four 3-points. No other Salem player scored in double figures.
With the loss, the Tigers drop to 4-12 on the season and 0-8 on the road. Salem will return to action at home against Shaw University on Jan. 17 at 7 p.m.
