GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Despite a 2-0 lead in the second half, the Salem University women's soccer team fell to Indiana University of Pennsylvania 3-2, Monday evening.
The loss drops Salem to 4-3-1, while IUP bumps up to 5-4-1.
The Tigers outshot the Crimson Hawks 21-14 with 15 shots on goal to IUP's 10.
The match was fairly rough as there were 18 fouls awarded in the contest, 14 to IUP and nine to Salem.
In the first half, neither team could generate a goal, but Salem managed to connect with 10 shots on goal.
IUP's keeper Maria Tunney recorded 10 saves in the first half and finished the match with 13, while the Tigers' sophomore goalkeeper
Valentina Bonaiuto notched seven saves in the contest.
The Tigers scored first in the 57th minute, as a header attempt from sophomore
Barbara Stenner was saved and sophomore
Kiara Pennycooke was there to clean it up to take a 1-0 lead.
Just six minutes later in the 63rd minute, freshman
Aliyah Armijo netted her third goal of the season off a through ball from Pennycooke in the 18-yard box.
In the 67th minute, the Crimson Hawks added a goal from Mahogany Willis as she managed her way past Bonaiuto to cut the lead to 2-1.
IUP was awarded a corner kick at 78:04 as Nikki Bowman found Kallie Conte who netted a quick header to tie the contest 2-2.
Neither team produced a goal in the last 10 minutes of the match and the game went to extra time.
In the second overtime at 100:56, IUP's Willis ended the game as Megan Woodworth found Willis on a long through ball as Willis found the back of the net for the 3-2 win.
Salem is back in action Thursday as it is set to host Washington Adventist at 2:00 p.m. in Catalano Stadium.
