HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Salem University men's and women's swimming teams posted a strong showing at the West Virginia Games, this weekend.
The women's team finished sixth with 138 points, while the men also finished in sixth with 146 points.
This weekend's meet consisted of all collegiate swimming teams in the state of West Virginia including Division I Marshall and West Virginia University.
For the women, the 200-yard freestyle team took eighth place with a time of 1:49.98 with a quad of freshman
Danielle Lewis, freshman
Lauren Platz, freshman Annefleur ten Bloemenda and freshman Philippa Piper.
Platz swam to a 20-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a mark of 5:49.27, while she finished 13th in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:55.66.
Senior
Marta Gruszczynska had the best finish for the women as she posted an eighth-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a mark of 2:31.39.
Piper took home a 22nd place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:02.24.
For the men, the 200-yard freestyle team of freshman
Gregory Smith, sophomore
Gabriel Craig, freshman
Sean Rhode and freshman
Brady Samuels finished seventh with a time of 1:35.44.
Samuels had an impressive weekend with a sixth-place finish in the with a time of 2:02.46, an 11th place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (50.12), 50-yard freestyle (22.72) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.45).
Smith swam his way to a 10th place finish in the 200-yard IM (2:04.92), while he finished 12th in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.45) and 13th in the 100-yard freestyle (50.60).
Craig finished 21st in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:43.73.
The Tiger swimming teams are back in action Friday as they travel to Urbana (Ohio) with a start time of 6:00 p.m.
