MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The Salem University men's soccer team outlasted Walsh (Ohio) 1-0, on a chilly Tuesday afternoon for Senior Day.
With the win, Salem improves to 7-5-2 and has not lost since September 18th.
The Tigers outshot the Cavaliers 11-10 and posted nine first have shots.
Freshman
Bernardo Santos had an impressive showing as he tied his single-game season-high notching eight saves in the match.
This marks the third-straight shutout for the Tigers and is Santos third career shutout.
Walsh had several scoring chances in the match, but Santos withheld and made several impressive saves throughout.
The only goal of the match and the game-winning goal came at 12:20 as sophomore
Chase Myrie kicked a beautiful cross pass to sophomore
Federico Toschi as Toschi volleyed the ball past Walsh's keeper Brett Ekperuoh for a 1-0 Tiger lead.
The goal was Toschi's team-leading 11
th on the season.
Nine minutes before intermission, Toschi beamed a shot off the crossbar as players and coaches thought the ball went in but just missed by inches.
After the match, seniors
Sjoerd Schobbers,
Amon Tarus,
Dylan Ryan and
Mateo Gutierrez-Ospina were honored by the team for Senior Day.
The Tigers are back in action Saturday as they travel to Bloomfield with a match set for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.
