SALEM, W.Va.- The Salem University volleyball team fell to Ohio Valley 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-20), Friday evening.
The Tigers hosted their annual Dig Pink match in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. The loss drops Salem to 7-27 on the season.
Salem led the Fighting Scots in blocks (7-3), whereas OVU controlled the rest of the game including digs (47-34), aces (9-6) and kills (43-27).
The Tigers were led by senior
Cassidy Pluta with seven kills, 15 assists, six digs, and two blocks, while classmate
Kathryne Mathis contributed six kills and three aces on the evening.
Freshman
Yesenia Munoz added six kills and four blocks for Salem.
OVU was led by Yolaine Lopez with 12 kills and eight digs. Alyssa DeSplinter had a game-high of 20 assists with teammate Kanana Fuimaono following with 19 assists.
The first set was point-to-point the entire way with the biggest lead only being three points.
Freshman
Jalavia Johnson had a hard kill from a set by Pluta to cut the Scots' lead to 16-9 in the second set. Pluta had a spectacular dig with her foot after a hard shot from OVU.
The Tigers led most of the third set until a kill by Lopez to take the lead 18-17.
The Tigers are set to host Ohio Dominican for Senior Day on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
