Men’s Soccer Ends in a Tie with Washington Adventist

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A late goal from sophomore Mark Ferenczi-Bako earned the Salem University men's soccer team a 2-2 tie against Washington Adventist, on a cloudy and windy Thursday evening at Mylan Park.

After the draw, the Tigers record stands at 4-5-1, while Washington Adventist moves to 5-3-1.

The match was fairly chippy as there were 23 fouls on Salem and 15 on Washington Adventist along with several intense discussions.

In the first half, Salem only managed to generate one shot, while Washington Adventist notched seven.

On the Tigers lone shot in the first half, Ferenczi-Bako netted a beautiful chip shot over Washington Adventist's keeper William Benitez at 1:21 for a 1-0 lead.

Just four minutes later, off a corner kick, Washington Adventist's Stefone Coburn scored a goal off an assist from Douglas Guevara to knot the match at 1-1.

Later in the half, Salem had an opportunity for a point as there was physical play inside the 18-yard box and was unable to find the goal.

Freshman Bernardo Santos notched an impressive five saves in the first half. He finished the match with a total of six.

Early in the second half, Washington Adventist's Daniel Moreira finessed his way to find the back of the net off a free kick 19 yards away to take a 2-1 lead at 54:34.

The Tigers would answer at 84:06 as sophomore Federico Toschi hit a brilliant shot but was saved by a diving Coburn, as Ferenczi-Bako was there to clean it up for an open goal to tie the match 2-2.

Neither team could find the back of the net in overtime as the match ended in a 2-2 draw.

The Tigers are back in action as they host Seton Hill (Pa.) Tuesday with a kick set for 3:00 p.m.
