WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Salem University women's basketball team dropped its season opener to Central State 86-70, Saturday.
The Tigers shot 35 percent from the floor, while they shot just 60 percent from the free throw line.
Salem was led by junior
Endia Jones as she tallied 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
The only other Tiger who was in double figures was junior
Precious Price as she had 12 points, with six rebounds.
Price scored 10 of her 12 points in the second half.
The Tigers led 26-18 at the end of the first quarter, but Central State outscored Salem by 10 in the second quarter to take a 42-40 lead into the half.
At 2:46 in the second quarter, junior
Alicia Smith hit a layup to give the Tigers a 38-36 lead, but Central State hit a three and a free throw to take a 42-28 lead with 20 seconds to go before intermission.
Salem posted 23-second chance points in the game, while Central State had just six.
Central State took advantage of the Tigers' turnovers as it scored 26 points off of Salem's 35 turnovers.
The Tigers were outscored by 14 in the second half only scoring 11 points in the third quarter.
The Tigers are back on the court today, as they matchup with Kentucky State at 2:00 p.m.
