Tigers Suffer Road Loss

FAIRMONT, W.Va.– The Salem University women's basketball team fell on the road to Fairmont State at Joe Retton Arena, Thursday night. 
 
The loss drops the Tigers to 2-9, while Fairmont improves to 4-6. 
 
The Tigers shot 32.9 percent (25-76) from the field and just 14.3 percent from three (4-28), while Fairmont shot 36.4 percent (24-66) from the floor and 40.7 percent from behind the arc (11-27). 
 
Salem turned the ball over 21 times, whereas the Falcons had 17 turnovers. The Tigers produced 15 points off the Falcon turnovers. 
 
The Tigers outscored the Falcons with points in the paint as Salem notched 38 points to Fairmont's 16. 
 
Freshman Daniela Quesada-Villalobos led the way for the Tigers as she netted a team-high and career-high 16 points, with three rebounds and two assists. 
 
The only other Tiger in double figures, was junior Precious Price as she garnered 11 points and grabbed three rebounds, while junior Endia Jones scored nine points and snagged seven rebounds, with four of them on the offensive end. 
 
In the first quarter, Salem kept pace with the Falcons as the Tigers only trailed by one, 18-17. 
 
After a steal from freshman Nerea Arambari Fernandez, she found Price for a fast-break layup at 3:42 in the second quarter for a 28-27 Tiger lead. Unfortunately, this was the last lead that Salem held. 
 
The Tiger trailed 37-32 at halftime. 
 
Fairmont opened the third quarter with a 17-4 run as it led Salem 54-36 with 4:19 left in the quarter. 
 
Salem cut the lead to seven in the fourth quarter after a steal and layup from junior Aaliyah Holmes at 9:04 as Fairmont led 58-51. But this is as close as the Tigers would get as Fairmont increased its lead as the clocked expired with Fairmont leading 78-64. 
 
The Tigers are back in action Wednesday, as they host Charleston at 2:00 p.m.
