KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Salem University volleyball team dropped its season opener 3-1 to Goldey-Beacom at the Kutztown Classic, Thursday evening.
Goldey-Beacom took the first set 25-17, with the Tigers answering and winning the second set 25-18. The Lightning went on to defeat the Tigers, winning the third and fourth set 25-15 and 25-17 respectively.
Salem University led Goldley-Beacom in blocks 6-0 and digs 56-50, while the Lightning led the Tigers in assists (46-20), kills (49-25) and aces (16-7).
Sophomore
Nina Isaac recorded a match-high four blocks, while sophomore
Alaina Weltz tied a match-high five aces and a team-high 11 assists.
The Tigers opened the second set with four straight points giving them a 4-0 lead. Salem University ended the match with two straight points with a kill from Isaac and a service ace from Weltz.
The Tigers are back in action tomorrow as they face Kutztown at 10:30 a.m. and N.Y. Institute of Technology at 3:00 p.m. on the second day of the Kutztown Classic.
