CLARKSBURG, W.Va. – The Salem University men's soccer team tied 1-1 against foe Lake Erie, Saturday afternoon at Robert C. Byrd High School.
Lake Erie outshot the Tigers 19-9, while the Storm also had more shots on goal (8) than Salem (3).
Lake Erie also had the advantage in corner kicks as they were awarded 13 to Salem's four.
The match was fairly scrappy, as there were 43 total fouls on the day.
The Tigers' goal came early in the match at 2:40 as sophomore
Ameen El-Shami found classmate
Federico Toschi for his seventh goal of the season and a 1-0 advantage for the Tigers. With the assist, El-Shami recorded his third assist of the season.
Just three minutes later, Lake Erie's Gabriel Leding netted a goal as he connected with a ball that bounced off the crossbar to tie the match at 1-1.
In the second half, neither team could get any offense rolling as the match went full-time tied at 1-1.
In overtime, neither team could produce a goal, as the match ended at a 1-1 tie.
Freshman goalkeeper
Bernardo Santos allowed one goal and notched seven saves in 110:00 minutes played.
The Tigers are back in action Wednesday as they travel to Mercyhurst for a match at 3:30 p.m.
