ERIE, Pa.- The Salem University men's soccer team picked-up a win on the road against Mercyhurst 3-1, Wednesday.
With the win, the Tigers' record improves to 4-5-1.
The Lakers led the Tigers in shots (18-12), shots on goal (9-5) and corners (5-0), however the Tigers managed to score three goals on five shots on goal.
Salem's first scoring opportunity came at 1:57 as senior
Amon Tarus took a shot just high.
The first goal of the game came off of a penalty kick at 10:50 taken by senior
Sjoerd Schobbers for a goal giving Salem a 1-0 lead.
Schobbers later scored again at 18:13 from a clean assist by sophomore
Mark Ferenczi-Bako furthering the Tigers' lead 2-0 over the Lakers.
In the second half sophomore
Ameen El-Shami scored a goal to expand Salem's lead to 3-0 at 59:53.
Mercyhurst scored its first goal as Salvatore Canzoneri managed to get the ball just past freshman goalkeeper
Bernardo Santos.
Santos finished the game with eight saves and just one goal allowed on the afternoon.
Men's soccer heads back home to compete against Washington Adventist Thursday, October 4 at 4:00 p.m.
