FAIRMONT, W.Va. –The Salem University women's soccer team tied 1-1 with Fairmont State, Wednesday night.
With the tie, the Tigers move to 4-2-1, while Fairmont goes to 5-1-2.
The Falcons outshot Salem 16-14, while the Tigers led Fairmont in shots on goal 7-6.
The Tigers earned three corner kicks, while the Falcons notched two.
Junior
Tamara Queiroz generated six shots with one goal and four shots on goal, while freshman
Aliyah Armijo mustered three shots with one on goal.
Salem had two early opportunities for a goal at 4:22 and 8:21 as sophomore
Thuto Ramafifi and Queiroz each had a shot saved by Fairmont goalkeeper Isabelle Vaccari.
At 33:07 the Falcons' Kellie Norris found a way past the Tigers' sophomore goalkeeper
Valentina Bonaiuto off an assist from Ella Wilson.
Bonaiuto finished the match with five saves and one goal allowed.
In the 87th minute, Queiroz netted her team-leading seventh goal of the season off an assist from Armijo to tie the game at 1-1.
In overtime, neither team could generate a shot on goal. The Tigers had two late chances at 106:34 and 109:46 with a header from Queiroz that was high and a shot from sophomore
Kiara Pennycooke that went wide.
The Tigers are back in action Monday as they host Indiana (Pa.) at Catalano Stadium set for a 4:00 p.m. kick.
