SALEM, W.Va.- The Salem University men's soccer team over powered Findlay in its home opener 2-1, Thursday afternoon on a slippery pitch at Catalano Stadium.
The Tigers outshot the Oilers 11-10 in the match and earned more corners 3-2. Both teams had a total of six shots on goal.
The first scoring opportunity for the Tigers, happened in the first half at 8:46 as sophomore
Federico Toschi received a pass from senior
Sjoerd Schobbers as he missed the shot just wide.
Salem earned a corner kick at 36:46 taken by sophomore
Mark Ferenczi-Bako. After the ball was deflected by a defender, freshman
Jordan Lau took a shot in the upper right corner for the first goal of the match.
The second goal of the game was scored by Toschi from a through ball by sophomore
Chase Myrie at 57:31.
Findlay earned its chance of a comeback at 64:04 as it was awarded with a penalty shot as Josh Hales snuck the ball past sophomore goalkeeper
Wiktor Stawski cutting the score to 2-1.
Stawski finished the match with five saves only allowing one goal in 90:00 minutes played.
The Tigers will travel to Robert C. Byrd High School on Saturday to compete against Marian University at 2:00 p.m.
