Ferenczi-Bako's Tying And Winning Goals Rally Tigers In OT

Mark Ferenczi-Bako tied the match in the 83rd minute and scored the game-winning goal with 48.4 seconds left in the first overtime to rally Salem University to a 2-1 victory over Seton Hill University in NCAA Division II men's soccer Wednesday at Greensburg, Pa. The two-goal performance is the second this season for Ferenczi-Bako, who has scored at least one goal in five of his last six matches.

After a scoreless first half, Salem (5-8-1) fell behind 1-0 when a Seton Hill (6-6-1) corner kick just inside the 63rd minute led to the first goal of the contest. Tiger goalkeeper Luis Felipe Ramirez recorded a save on a shot attempt, but the Griffins regained possession a minute later and Tormod Simonsen broke the deadlock at the 63:44 mark.

Salem narrowly missed tying the match in the 74th minute as Siya Mfusi's shot set up a corner kick and Alfredo Astaburuaga had a shot attempt off of the corner kick. But Griffin goalkeeper Austin Iddon made saves on both shots to keep Seton Hill on top.

A Seton Hill foul and yellow card led to a penalty kick for the Tigers at the 82:29 mark. Ferenczi-Bako put the shot home to even the match.

Salem was unable to capitalize on corner kick opportunity in the 85th minute and Seton Hill missed a shot in the final seconds to send the match into overtime.

Seton Hill looked to end the contest in the 95th minute, but Ramirez delivered a pair of key defensive plays. Ramirez punched out a ball served into the box and then made a save on a close-range shot off a corner kick to keep the match even. The Tigers would not allow another shot the remainder of the match.

Salem nearly ended the match in the 99th minute, but Iddon made a diving save on Mfusi's 18-yard roller. Seton Hill struggled to clear the ball and the Tigers took advantage.

Ferenczi-Bako captured a loose ball just left of center and his 30-yarder found the back of the net at 99:11 to seal the win for the Tigers. The win was the Tigers' second in as many overtime matches this season.

The Tigers outshot the Griffins 16-13 for the match, including a 3-1 advantage in overtime. Ramirez finished with seven saves for Salem, while Iddon had five saves for Seton Hill.

Salem plays host to Shaw University Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Tigers' 2019 home finale. An announcement will be made later this week whether the match will be played at Catalano Stadium or at Mylan Park.
