Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Defeats Daemen 3-1

Mark Ferenczi-Bako's second goal of the match in the 64th minute put Salem University ahead to stay as the Tigers defeated Daemen College 3-1 in NCAA Division II men's soccer Thursday morning at Amherst, N.Y. Nicholas Booysen added an insurance goal on a penalty kick in the 86th minute.

The contest was moved to a morning kickoff due to impending weather conditions in Western New York. Both teams endured rainfall throughout the match.

Salem (3-5-1) jumped out to a quick lead when Ferenczi-Bako found the back of the net at the 6:45 mark. The Tigers limited Daemen to one shot on goal in the first 45 minutes and went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

Daemen (0-8-0) tied the contest at the 54:16 mark on a goal by Erik Matthews. The match stayed even for nine minutes until Ferenczi-Bako scored again at 63:10 to put the Tigers back on top 2-1.

Booysen converted his second penalty kick of the season at 85:18 to finish the scoring.

Salem outshot Daemen 17-8 for the match, including a 12-3 advantage in the second half. Luis Felipe Ramirez finished with two saves for the Tigers, while Jarrett Lecceadone had six saves for the Wildcats.

The Tigers will have an Alumni Game Saturday as part of Salem's Homecoming Weekend. Salem resumes regular season action Tuesday as the Tigers play host to Lincoln Memorial University. Match time is 2 p.m. at Catalano Stadium.
