Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Chrislyn Browne Scores For Tigers Against Southeast Region No. 5 Wingate

Chrislyn Browne scored her second goal in as many matches as Salem University spoiled NCAA II Southeast Region fifth-ranked Wingate University's bid for its eighth shutout of the season, falling 10-1 in women's soccer Wednesday at Wingate, N.C. Sophia Wortmann, who also scored a goal in the Tigers' previous match, was credited with the assist.

Three minutes after Wingate scored on a penalty kick, Salem answered with a counter-attack. Wortmann played the ball to Browne, whose shot slipped past the keeper to make it an 8-1 score at the 72:53 mark.

Salem had held Wingate to only two goals through the first 41-plus minutes of the second half and limited the Bulldogs to only two shots over the next 14 minutes after scoring its goal. Wingate added a pair of goals 31 seconds apart starting in the 87th minute to close out the scoring.

Tiger goalkeeper Chelsea Cordice recorded 20 saves for the Tigers, marking the third time this season she has reached the 20-save mark. Cordice, who led the nation in total saves through the first month of the season, moved into second place with 171 saves. Ironically, she trails only the goalkeeper from Lincoln University (Pa.), whom the Tigers defeated 2-1 in overtime September 25.

Salem wraps up its swing through the Tar Heel State Friday as the Tigers travel to Raleigh, N.C., for a rematch against Shaw University. The Tigers fell 4-2 Saturday at Mylan Park in Morgantown. Match time is 1 p.m.
