Bas De Waal scored first-half goals and the Salem University defense made them stand as the Tigers defeated Shaw University 2-0 in NCAA Division II men's soccer Friday at Raleigh, N.C. The shutout was the third for the Tigers this season and the first for goalkeeper
Wiktor Stawski.

Salem (7-9-1) broke a scoreless tie at the 15:51 mark when Davies scored his eighth goal of the season to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Four of Davies' goals have against Shaw after recording a hat trick, including the game winner in overtime, in last Saturday's 4-3 victory at Mylan Park in Morgantown,

De Waal added a goal at 27:45 for the final tally of the match. The goal was De Waal's second of the season.

The Tigers held Shaw to three shots in the first half and outshot the Bears 12-7 for the match. Salem limited Shaw to only one shot attempt in the final 29 minutes of the match. Friday's contest marked the fourth time this season the Tigers have kept an opponent under 10 shots.

Stawski played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded three of his four saves in the second half.

Salem concludes its season with a pair of road contests next week. The Tigers travel to Flushing, N.Y., Wednesday to take on Queens College, then head to Oakland City, Ind., next Saturday to go up against Oakland City University.
