Tigers' Comeback Falls Short Against Senators

SALEM, W.Va. - The Salem University women's basketball came up short 85-79 in Monday's rematch to Davis & Elkins.
 
The loss drops the Tigers to 6-17, while the Senators increase to 7-15 on the season.
 
D&E controlled the game statistically over Salem. The Senators shot 48.3 percent in field-goal percentage, while the Tigers shot 39.7 percent. The Tigers tossed up six times the amount of three-pointers than the Senators. Salem finished with 26.2 percent (11-42) from behind the arc, while the Senators shot 37.5 percent (3-8) from deep.
 
The Senators shot 75.0 percent from the free throw line as the Tigers shot 66.7 percent. D&E also capitalized on Salem's 14 turnovers by scoring 18 points.
 
Freshman Daniela Quesada-Villalobos led the Tigers as she had career-high 21 points. Junior Precious Price finished with 17 points shooting 4-9 from behind the arc and adding in four assists.
 
Freshman Nia Bishop was the only other Tiger to hit double-digits scoring with 11 points, while junior Reeva Jackson notched a career-high ten rebounds.
 
The Senators were led by Colleena Burdock who netted 19 points. Kali Wilburn added 17 points as Nicole Armstrong also chipped in 13 points.
 
Davis & Elkins dominated the first three quarters, with their biggest lead (15) of the game coming at the end of the third quarter as the Senators led the Tigers 66-51. The Tigers came back with a dominating fourth quarter scoring 25 points to D&E's 19.
 
The Tigers were able to cut the lead down to just one point (71-70) when Villalobos sank a three from Nia Bishop with 2:51 left in the game.
 
Villalobos scored seven of Salem's last nine points of the game.
 
After four sets of free throws from the Senators, D&E was able to finish the game with a 6 point lead.
 
The Tigers are set to travel to Kutztown Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
