NUTTER FORT, W.Va. –The Salem University baseball team has now won three straight games with the two wins over Lincoln (Pa.) 13-6, 10-1, in a doubleheader at Frank Loria Memorial Field, on a cold Thursday afternoon.
With the wins, Salem improves to 3-5, while Lincoln slides to 0-4. The Tigers played very impressively in each game and as they shouted all game, they "COMPETE."
In game one, Salem recorded 10 hits on 13 runs scored, with 13 RBI and six left on base, while Lincoln posted six hits on six runs with three left on base.
Junior
Tyler Ault had a hot bat, as he notched a game-high two home runs with five RBI, while senior
Harrison Hollis notched three hits and three runs with one RBI in five at-bats.
Senior
Thirus Jones also garnered a home run to go along with two RBI and three runs scored.
Junior
Walker Dodero is credited with the win (1-0), as he recorded nine strikeouts with five hits allowed and five earned runs in five innings pitched.
The Tigers recorded the first score of the game as senior
Jimmy Cramer grounded out to short but brought home Hollis for the 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
Lincoln got hot in the top of the second inning, as they scored five of its six runs in the inning.
The Tigers roared back in the bottom of the third inning as Ault and Jones each bombed two shots out of the park as Ault brought home Hollis and Jones brought Cramer home for a 6-5 Tiger lead.
Ault extended the lead in the bottom of the fifth as he blasted a three-run shot out of left field for his second home run of the game and a 10-6 lead.
In game two, the Tigers dominated from start to finish and did not trail the entire game.
Junior
James Wiseman earned his first win of the season (1-2) as he notched eight strikes with just one earned run and two hits allowed.
Cramer and sophomore
Austin Whetzel each posted two hits, two runs scored and two RBI.
Salem scored early, as Whetzel notched a triple on a hit to center field that brought home Cramer for the 1-0 lead in the first inning.
In the fifth inning, Salem extended its lead to 7-0 off an unusual play as Dodero hit a fielders choice but junior
Dalton Robison scored after being caught in a rundown as the Lincoln player mishandled the ball as Robison touched home plate.
Salem added two runs in the bottom of the sixth as Robison hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring home Whetzel, as senior
Isaiah Arroyo connected with a single down the right field line to score freshman
Mike Belka.
The Tigers are back in action tomorrow for a single nine-inning game against Lincoln slated for noon at Frank Loria Memorial Field.
