BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – The Salem University women's basketball team defeated Bluefield State 83-71, Saturday afternoon.
The win brings the Tigers to 7-18 on the season, while dropping the Big Blues to 9-17.
Statistically, Bluefield had higher shooting percentages than Salem, but the Tigers tossed up more shots than the Big Blues.
From the floor, the Big Blues shot 38.8 percent (26-67), while the Tigers posted a 37.7 percent (29-77). Bluefield shot 28.6 percent (6-21) from behind the arc and 65.0 percent (13-20) at the free throw line, while the Tigers shot 28.1 percent (9-32) and 51.6 percent (16-31), respectively.
Salem capitalized by scoring 21 points on Bluefield's 25 turnovers, while the Tigers' bench also contributed with 35 points.

Nerea Arambarri Fernandez led the Tigers with a career high of 26 points draining four threes and dishing out four assists.

Daniela Quesada-Villalobos added 17 points to the win, while the only other Tiger to hit double digits was freshman
Nia Bishop with 11 points, three assists and four steals.
The first half was a back-and-forth battle with the Big Blues out-scoring the Tigers 20-15 in the first quarter, and the Tigers taking the lead to end the half 42-38.
The Tigers claimed their largest lead of the game with only 20 seconds left after a made free throw from Villalobos 83-69.
The Big Blues were led by Dani Janutolo with 14 points and Lyndsay Hatfield grabbing 13 rebounds.
The Tigers are set to host Mansfield on Mike Carey Court Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
