NUTTER FORT, W.Va. – The Salem University baseball team dropped a nine-inning game to Alderson Broaddus 9-6, on a cold Friday afternoon at Frank Loria Memorial Field.
Following the loss, Salem falls to 4-6, while Alderson Broaddus improves to 1-4.
Junior
James Wiseman started on the hill for the Tigers as he allowed four earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts in 3.1 innings pitched.
Sophomore
Austin Whetzel led the way offensively as he notched two hits and two RBI with one run scored, while senior
Thirus Jones recorded one hit with one RBI.
ABU started off hot as it generated three runs off two hits and one error on the Tigers for a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Salem answered in the bottom of the first with a run as Whetzel doubled down the left field line to score senior
Jimmy Cramer to cut the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the first.
In the top of the second ABU added two more runs to push its lead to 5-1.
In the bottom of the third inning, the Tigers produced their best offensive attack as they scored four runs in the inning. Junior
Albert Cartenuto scored on a passed ball, Whetzel hit a fielders choice to score senior
Harrison Hollis, junior
Tyler Ault crossed the plate on a passed ball and Jones doubled to score Whetzel to tie the game at 5-5.
Salem added its last run in the bottom of the eighth as Ault earned an RBI as sophomore
Tyler D'Alessandro scored to cut the lead to 9-6.
The Tigers are back in action Sunday with a doubleheader slated for 12:00 p.m. at the Frank against UVA-Wise.
