MURFREESBORO, N.C.- A nail biting game ended with the Salem University women's basketball team claiming a 92-85 win over Chowan, Wednesday evening.
The win boosts the Tigers to 5-16 on the season, while dropping the Hawks to 11-11.
Salem outshot Chowan in field-goal percentage with 41.4 percent to Chowan's 31.0 percent. The Tigers led the game in threes, shooting 11-28 from outside the arc, while the Hawks only made three of their 23 attempts.
The game was back-and-forth all night with12 ties. The largest lead of the game came in the third quarter with 5:11 left, as junior
Imari Bowers sank an and-one three, making it a four-point play after knocking down the free throw.
Chowan battled back into the game at the end of the quarter, trailing the Tigers 72-69 after a pair of free throws. The biggest lead in the fourth quarter was just three points until 30 seconds left in the game, as the Tigers connected on their free throws pushing their lead to seven.Â
The Tigers finished the game with six players finishing in double digits. Freshman
Nia Bishop notched a career-high with 22 points with five rebounds and six steals.

Makayla Pickens added another 11 points.
Junior
Endia Jones chipped-in with ten points and seven rebounds, as Bowers was the sixth player with double-digits, knocking down ten points. Freshman
Aitana Nuevo Garcia added ten rebounds.
Chowan was led by Danielle Weldon who notched a double-double on the night with game-highs of 33 points and 20 rebounds.
The Tigers are set to host Virginia University Lynchburg at 2:00 p.m. Saturday.
