ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The Salem University baseball team dropped the second game of a three-game slate to Claflin 8-1, Saturday.
The loss drops Salem to 0-5, while Claflin improves to 4-2.
The Tigers recorded seven hits in 31 at-bats with one run and one RBI while Claflin notched 15 hits in 33 at-bats with eight runs.
Junior
James Wiseman is tabbed with the loss (0-2), as he pitched 3.2 innings with five hits allowed, six earned runs and six walks.
Senior
Jimmy Cramer and junior
Walker Dodero each notched two hits in four at-bats, while junior
Parker Lenivy recorded one hit and one RBI in two at-bats.
Claflin controlled the entire game with a big fourth inning that hurt the Tigers. Claflin led 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning and notched a four-run inning in the bottom of the fourth for a 6-0 lead over Salem.
Claflin added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth for an 8-0 lead. In the top of the ninth Salem added a run as Lenivy hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring junior
Tyler Ault to cut the lead to 8-1.
The Tigers look to bounce back tomorrow for their first win with the final matchup of the weekend against Claflin at 1:00 p.m.
