NUTTER FORT, W.Va. – The Salem University baseball team battled for a 10-7 win against Jefferson on a cold, rainy and windy night at Frank Loria Memorial Field, Friday.

With the win, Salem improves to 12-9 for its second-straight win.

Sophomore Kyle Sears pitched in relief for three and one-third innings, allowing just two hits, zero runs and struck out four batters. Junior Jack McNellis pitched in the top of the eighth and retired the side with three-straight strikeouts to earn the win.

Senior Harrison Hollis was 2-4 with two hits and two RBI, while junior Tyler Ault notched one hit and two RBI.

Jefferson tallied the first run of the game as it scored in the top of the first inning off a wild pitch to take a 1-0 lead over the Tigers.

In the bottom of the second inning, the Tigers answered as sophomore Tyler D'Alessandro doubled off the left-field wall and scored junior Dalton Robison from first base to tie the game 1-1. Ault blasted a triple to left center to bring home D'Alessandro and Hollis for a 3-1 advantage.

In the bottom of the third, Salem added two runs with the first coming off an error from Jefferson and the second came as Robison crossed home as senior Thirus Jones stalled a run down for a 5-1 lead.

In the top of the fourth, Jefferson's Fike hit a two-run shot to right center to cut the lead to 5-3.  Later that inning, Wood doubled to right center scoring two runs to tie the game 5-5.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth, junior Noah Suarez was walked to score freshman Mike Belka for a 6-5 advantage. In the next at-bat, Hollis singled through the left side to score two runs as D'Alessandro and Jones crossed home for an 8-5 lead.

Suarez scored off an error from Jefferson later in the bottom of the eighth to take a 9-5 advantage. Salem added its last run as Hollis crossed home as the bases were loaded and Belka was walked for a 10-5 lead.
