SALEM, W.Va. – The Salem University softball team dropped doubleheader to Concord 13-7 and 7-3, on a sunny, chilly Tuesday afternoon at Hope Field.
With the losses, the Tigers fall to 5-15 on the season.
In game one, Concord out hit the Tigers 14-10, scoring two runs in the first inning with a lead-off triple to left field.
The Mountain Lions scored another run in the second inning increasing the lead 3-0.
The Tigers scored in the bottom of the second inning after junior
Morgan Atkinson reached first on a hit by pitch and stole second and third base. With Atkinson on third base, sophomore
Brianna Bennett singled to center field to narrow the lead 3-1.
Concord went on to score six runs in the third inning taking the advantage 9-1.
In the bottom of the third inning, the Tigers scored another run after a pair of walks and an RBI single to center field by Atkinson to make it 9-2.
In the fourth inning, Salem started swinging away and taking advantage of Concord errors.
Junior
Chyann Hooker led off the inning reaching first base on an error by the second baseman and advancing to second on a passed ball.
Bennett singled to left field then advanced to second on another passed ball to put runners on second and third for the Tigers.
With bases loaded and two outs for Salem, junior
Rosey Romick singled to right center scoring two runs and an error on the right fielder allowed another run to score as Romick advanced to third cutting the lead to 9-5.
Junior
Christine Bombardiere hit a two-run home run over the left field fence to make the score 9-7.
The next run of the game came in the top of sixth inning from the Mountain Lions with a pair of doubles to further the lead 10-7.
Concord went on to score three more runs in the top of the seventh to take the win 13-7.
Romick went 3-3 with two RBI and two runs, while Bennett was 3-4 at the plate.
In game two, Concord came out hot scoring five runs against the Tigers to take the lead in the first inning 5-0.
The Mountain Lions scored another run in the top of the second inning to take a 6-0 advantage. nninggers scored in the bottom of the secon increasing the lead 3-0.

The Tigers put a run on the board in the bottom of the third inning with an error from Concord to cut the lead to 6-1.
After two scoreless innings, Concord increased the lead 7-1 in the top of the sixth inning, but the Tigers answered back.
Hooker singled to center field and advanced to second base on an error. Reckling hit a two-run blast over the left field fence to cut the lead 7-3 in the bottom of the sixth.
Reckling went 2-3 at the plate with a home run and two runs-batted-in.
The Tigers travel to Alderson Broaddus, Wednesday, for a double header starting at 4:30 p.m.
