Tigers Overpower Wesleyan 9-2

NUTTER FORT, W.Va. –The Salem University baseball team rolled West Virginia Wesleyan 9-2, on a beautiful Monday night at Frank Loria Memorial Field. 
 
With the win, the Tigers improve to 23-17. 
 
Junior ace Sam Chapman remains a perfect 8-0, as he fanned five batters and allowed six hits with two earned runs in five innings pitched. 
 
Sophomore Austin Whetzel was 2-for-3 with two doubles, one RBI and three runs scored, while junior Dalton Robison was 2-for-5 with two doubles, one RBI and one run scored. 
 
In the bottom of the first, Robison doubled to right field as senior Harrison Hollis scored from second for a 1-0 Tiger lead. 
 
WVWC added a run in the top of the second to knot the game 1-1. 
 
In the bottom of the second, Whetzel scored on a wild pitch to regain the lead, 2-1. 
 
Wesleyan tied the game in the top of the fifth, but the Tigers answered in the bottom of the fifth as senior Thirus Jones doubled off the left-field wall with the bases loaded to score three runs for a 5-2 lead. 
 
Salem added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth as Robison scored on a throwing error, while a few batters later Whetzel doubled to left center to score junior Walker Dodero to extend the lead to 7-2. In the following at-bat, sophomore Tyler D'Alessandro singled to right to bring home Whetzel for an 8-2 lead. 
 
The Tigers added their last run in the eighth as Dodero forced a rundown that allowed junior Tyler Ault to advance home for a 9-2 lead.
 
Salem is back in action tomorrow as it travels to Glenville State with the first pitch set for 7:00 p.m.
