Baseball Clipped by Charleston 6-5

NUTTER FORT, W.Va. – The Salem University baseball team was clipped 6-5 by Charleston, on a sunny Tuesday afternoon at Frank Loria Memorial Field. 
 
Following the loss, Salem drops to 23-19, while Charleston moves to 24-11. 
 
Sophomore Tyler D'Alessandro was 4-for-5 with a double, triple and two RBI, while senior Jimmy Cramer was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two stolen bases.
 
Junior Sam Chapman started on the hill for the Tigers as he pitched 5.1 innings with three hits and two earned runs allowed, while he fanned two batters. 
 
The Tigers tallied the first runs of the game as Cramer hit a sacrifice fly to right field as senior Harrison Hollis crossed home plate for a 1-0 lead. A few batters later, D'Alessandro hit an infield single as junior Tyler Ault scored for a 2-0 Salem advantage. 
 
In the bottom of the fifth inning after a double from junior Walker Dodero, Cramer stepped-up to the plate and hit an RBI single to left center for a 3-0 Tiger lead.  
 
Charleston tied the game 3-3 in the top of the sixth as it hit a three-run homer.
 
In the top the seventh, the Golden Eagles took the lead as they hit an RBI single for a 4-3 lead. 
 
After an RBI triple from D'Alessandro, the Tigers tied the game at 4-4 as sophomore Austin Whetzel crossed home plate. 
 
In the top of the eighth, Charleston hit an RBI double to take a 6-4 advantage. 
 
Salem scored one run in the bottom of the ninth as senior Thirus Jones came into the game as a pinch hitter and hit a groundout RBI as junior Parker Lenivy scored to cut the lead to 6-5. But the Tigers were unable to capitalize with runners left on base. 
 
The Tigers are back in action tomorrow as they head to Ohio Valley with a 3:00 p.m. start.
