CANTON, Ohio – The Salem University softball team dropped two games to Malone 5-1, 10-3, Tuesday afternoon.
With the losses, the Tigers move to 7-21 on the season.
With a slow start to the first game, the first run didn't come until the third inning from the Pioneers to take the lead 4-0.
Malone went on to score another run in the bottom of the fourth off of an inside the park home run increasing the lead 5-0.
The Tigers only run came from a blast to center field from junior
Morgan Atkinson, cutting the lead but giving the Pioneers the 5-1 win.
In game two, the Tigers got on the board first in the top of the second inning. Atkinson led the inning off with a single to left field followed by a single from junior
Sydney McPherson to right field.
With runners on first and second, sophomore
Destinee Baldwin singled up the middle to load the bases for Salem. Sophomore
Casey Moritz hit a single to right center bringing two runs across the plate to take a 2-0 lead.
The Pioneers cut the lead 2-1 in the bottom of the third inning with a home run to left center.
In the top of the sixth inning, two singles from the Tigers put runners on first and second. Another single from sophomore
Olivia Davoli scored one run stretching the lead 3-1.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Pioneers hit eight singles scoring seven runs to take the win 10-3.
The Tigers are back in action today as they host Kentucky State at Hope Field for a doubleheader starting at 2:00 p.m.
