Tigers Fall to California (Pa.)

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Salem University baseball team dropped a road contest to California (Pa.) 15-7, Tuesday afternoon at Wild Things Park.
 
Following the loss, Salem falls to 22-17, while Cal improves to 22-8.
 
Senior Harrison Hollis was 2-for-5 from the plate with three RBI, two runs scored and a home run, while junior Dalton Robison was 2-for-4 with one RBI.
 
Sophomore Carlos Pena received the start for the Tigers and is tabbed with the loss, as he allowed six hits and four earned runs with three strikeouts.
 
Cal scored the first run of the afternoon off a home run to left center in the bottom of the first inning. Cal went on to add another run in the bottom of the second, while it added three more runs in the bottom of the third for a 5-0 advantage.
 
Salem scored its first run in the top of the fourth as Robison hit a sacrifice fly to right field, bringing home Hollis as the Vulcans led 5-1.
 
In the top of the fifth, Salem cut the lead to one as Hollis blasted a three-run shot over the left field wall for his sixth home run of the year as the Vulcan lead was cut to 5-4.
 
In the bottom of the sixth, Cal added five more runs to extend the lead to 10-4, while it added another two runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 12-4 lead.
 
In the top of the eighth, Salem scored a couple of runs as sophomore Tyler D'Alessandro singled to right field to score senior Walker Dodero. In the next at-bat senior Isaiah Arroyo singled to left to score two runs as senior Thirus Jones and D'Alessandro crossed the plate to cut the lead to 12-7.
 
But Cal added three runs in the bottom of the eighth for a 15-7 advantage.
 
The Tigers are back in action tomorrow as they are set to host West Virginia Wesleyan at Frank Loria for a 6:00 p.m. start.
