JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Salem University softball team fell to Pittsburgh-Johnstown (UPJ) twice as it dropped in game one 3-0 and in game two 10-0, Tuesday afternoon.
With the losses the Tigers drop to 8-24 on the season, while the Panthers move to 15-11.
Junior pitcher
Christine Bombardiere struck three people out as she took the loss in game one.
The Panthers outhit the Tigers 9-5. UPJ got on the board in the bottom of the first inning with a home run to left field to take a 1-0 lead.
The next run of the game came in the bottom of the fourth inning with another shot down the left field line from the Panthers to increase the lead 3-0.
Senior
Kaleigh Decker led the Tigers in game one going 2-3 at the plate.
The Panthers outhit Salem in game two 11-4.
One of those four hits was a lead-off double from sophomore
Casey Moritz to get the game underway, but the offense could not rally for a run.
UPJ scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning for a 4-0 lead.
The Panthers went on to score six more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, stretching the lead 10-0.
The game ended in the fifth inning as UPJ earned the victory.
Junior
Rosey Romick took the loss in the circle. Romick had two strikeouts and only gave up one walk.
Moritz went 2-2 in the second game with a double.
The Tigers host Alderson Broaddus tomorrow for a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m.
